BSN Round 42: Atleticos are upset by Leones

The Regular Season in BSN just ended. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game in the last round took place in San German between second ranked Atleticos (21-14) and fifth ranked Leones (17-19) on Thursday night. Atleticos were defeated by Leones in a tough game at home 88-92. Leones made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) who scored 29 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American center Thomas Robinson (208-1991, college: Kansas) chipped in 23 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (201-1995, college: Arizona) who recorded a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Atleticos' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Leones have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Carolina and Mayaguez. Atleticos at the other side keep the second position with 14 games lost.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Bayamon. First ranked Vaqueros faced 4th ranked Gigantes. Host Vaqueros (24-12) smashed guests from Carolina (17-19) 102-74. It was a good game for the former international Javier Mojica (189-1984, college: CCSU) who led his team to a victory with 24 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Angel Rodriguez contributed with 16 points for the winners. The former international power forward Isaiah Manderson (208-1994, college: S.Florida, agency: BIG) replied with 21 points and 5 rebounds for Gigantes. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first position with 24-12 record. Gigantes lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with 19 games lost. They share the position with Ponce and Mayaguez.
The game in Humacao was also quite interesting. 5th ranked Cariduros (13-23) played at the court of sixth ranked Grises (14-22). Grises managed to secure a 6-point victory 111-105 on Friday. Axel Santiago scored 22 points to lead the charge for the winners. Grises' coach Wilhelmus Caanen used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Timajh Parker-Rivera with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds. Grises moved-up to fifth place. Cariduros lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with 23 games lost.

In the last game of round 42 Arecibo crushed Manati in a road game 107-80.




Humacao - Fajardo 111-105

The game in Humacao was also quite interesting. 5th ranked Cariduros (13-23) played at the court of sixth ranked Grises (14-22). Grises managed to secure a 6-point victory 111-105 on Friday. Grises looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Forward Axel Santiago (196-1994) scored 22 points to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Gabriel Belardo (188-1989, college: FIU) chipped in 18 points and 5 assists during the contest. Belardo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Grises' coach Wilhelmus Caanen used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was international power forward Timajh Parker-Rivera (202-1994, college: Towson) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and the former international point guard Ivan Gandia-Rosa (185-1997, college: UNF, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 22 points and 6 assists. Five Grises and four Cariduros players scored in double figures. Grises moved-up to fifth place. Cariduros lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with 23 games lost.

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Bayamon. First ranked Vaqueros faced 4th ranked Gigantes. Host Vaqueros (24-12) smashed guests from Carolina (17-19) 102-74. Vaqueros shot 65.0 percent from the field. Vaqueros had a 30-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 19 long-distance shots on high 61.3 percentage. Vaqueros players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. It was a good game for the former international Javier Mojica (189-1984, college: CCSU) who led his team to a victory with 24 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international point guard Angel Rodriguez (180-1992, college: Miami, FL, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 16 points for the winners. There was no surprise in Manati where 6th ranked Osos (11-25) were crushed by third ranked Capitanes (18-18) 107-80 on Thursday. Capitanes outrebounded Osos 43-29 including a 38-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 21 long-distance shots on high 55.3 percentage. Capitanes looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. American point guard Brandon Boyd (180-1997, college: CBU) scored 33 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Perry Jones III (211-1991, college: Baylor, agency: Slash Sports) chipped in 21 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Capitanes' coach Tony Ruiz felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was guard Algenis Quintana (182-2000) with 18 points and 6 assists and the former international forward Derek Reese (203-1993, college: Tennessee) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Capitanes maintains third position with 18-18 record having six points less than leader Quebradillas. Osos lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 25 games lost.
